Hey Dom, just finished reading the new book 'Comrades', enjoyed it as much as your first novel, great work! Very fortunate that the book release coincided with the federal election, since I do not have any political background what-so-ever it helped me to comprehend a few more things about politics (student level or otherwise) in an entertaining, readable format! It was also a very good portrayal of uni life, the different 'characters' to be found on any given campus and the amount of time that is spent at the tav/pub!

JG didn't invent the Citizens Assembly. Because no-one [in print] has taken the trouble to discover what citizens assembly means, I googled for a clue and apparently it's been done in British Columbia, Canada, to investigate changes to the provincial electoral system, {wikipedia}. This begs the question, why didn't journalists ask JG a few questions before losing concentration ??

Great article. I pick number 5. [ "and Rudd's staffer"], but I'm more interested in Gilllard's bodyguard/ junior adviser Andrew Stark who was bodyguard/junior adviser or something to Alexander Downer until 2007 then moved to Ms Gillard. It probably wasn't him but that's no less likely than any other staffer really, and the question no-one in the news media have asked as far as I know is, who stands to gain from the damaging leaks?

Hey Dom,

Delurking here for the first time. I rather enjoyed this post and as a Mum to an almost 2 year old can say with certainty that my husband was in fact FAR more clucky than I was and is still the clucky one in the hope of having another one (or two). I very much like what you've said about us being programmed to find newborns fascinating cos somehow they just are despite the milk-fuelled-vuvuzela tendencies.

I hope it happens for you cos despite the disgustingly hard work involved with parenthood and the complete lack of rationality in a child's behaviour it's be far the most rewarding thing I've ever done.
